Mesr Village

Situation

Mesr village (Mesr means Egypt in the native language) is a desert village located in the central county of Khur and Biabanak in the far east of Isfahan province. The village is in a 45-kilometer distance from Jandaq city, 420 kilometers from Isfahan and approximately 371 kilometers from Yazd. The village is considered as an oasis in Kavir desert (Dasht-e Kavir; the central desert of Iran). At the 2006 census, its population was 183, in 41 families; all of whom are known for their hospitality. How away, reaching Mesr Village is easy, though you need to change direction several times from major cities of Iran: around 250 kilometers drive onto the Naein-Tabas road from Esfahan west to east. After passing Farokhi and Nasrabad villages, there is a sign showing off-road direction:” Toward Mesr.”Upon 43 kilometers drive from the sign across the sand hills, 3 green spots will appear from far, next to each other and emerald-like. Few moments later, while the absolute silence of desert is your only company, you will find yourself in the first heaven land, Amirabad. The road is totally flat and considered as one of the wonders of Iran’s central desert that surprises every Eco-tourist. The sand hills around the village are known as thrones since the strong wind has shaped the surface, creating odd and fascinating shapes.

Background

Its founder was a wealthy shepherd named Josef. Mesr Village with an age not more than 100 years, was then known as Josef farm and when its subterranean canals were droughty, they made him dig a well with English diesel engines. After a year, its underground tables went down and Josef dug a deeper well, so the neighbor villagers named this village Chah Deraz (long-welled).But since Josef did not like this name and his own name was Josef and also the story of Prophet Josef had happened in Mesr (Egypt), he recommended to name it “Mesr”. Villagers who respected him, accepted his suggestion, and so Josef ordered to build a wide street in the middle of now Mesr Village, with a length of at least 500 meters.
