History
Among the most visited attractions of Tabriz, El Goli or Shah Goli Park (Shah Goli has been translated as “king’s pool”), located in the southeastern part of Tabriz, is considered as one of the most popular ones. The complex has a small historical mansion in the heart of a tiny lake; which was a summer resort for the royal family in Qajar era, representing traditional Iranian architectural style practiced in Azerbaijan. Before the Safavid Dynasty, the pool was the largest water supply for irrigation of gardens in the eastern part of Tabriz to the gate of Tehran. Later on, during the Qajar period, a stone wall was built around the inner part of the Lake. After that, a couple of streets, plenty of flowers and some sidewalks were set up around the park to increase the beauty and attractiveness of this marvelous promenade. The process of improvements for this park continued and in Pahlavi era, the governor of east Azerbaijan did some basic renovations in order to make it more beautiful than before. Now the octagonal structure in the center of the Park is used as the reception section. There are also coffee shops and restaurants in this eye-catching complex. Moreover, the presence of the lake and the surrounding spectacular walking paves have made Tabriz El Goli Park a popular tourist spot and a proper place for walking and relaxing.

Structure
The construction of this structure is attributed to Aq Qoyunlu dynasty and its development dates back to Safavid era. In the center of the Tabriz El Goli Park, there is an octagonal shape mansion (nowadays called El-Goli Palace) , now used as a reception hall. In addition to the coffee shop and restaurant located in El-Goli Park, the area around the lake is also a spectacular and beautiful place to walk and relax; there is also a possibility for the visitors to sail inside the lake. The park has been registered on the National Heritage list of Iran in 2008 because of the national value of its mansion.
El Goli palace
El Goli Palace is an octagonal and two-storied building. As one of the symbols of the city of Tabriz, this structure dates back to the time of Agh Qoyunlu. The beautiful and diamond-shap structure topped with a small dome, by the end of the Qajar period, had been a courtyard for princes and today has become a restaurant and reception room for travelers and people.
El goli Lake
Glowing like a lagoon, this pool or lake of El goli (Shahgoli), is 5.5 hectares wide with the capacity of 720,000 cubic meters of water. The pool at its deepest part has a depth of 12 meters, but in the eastern corner, it is between 3 and 6 meters.In the past, however, the lake was larger in size and its floor was also natural, but now its size has fallen because of the garden surrounding it. Lake water flows from one of the branches of the Liqvan River, which runs near the Chawan village, and flows into a small stream from the south-east of the lake into it.
Development
Tabriz El Goli Park was the largest water reservoir to irrigate gardens of east Tabriz before Safavid Dynasty but during this era a wall made of stone was dragged around interior part of the lake. During the Qajar era, some streets, flowers and walk sides were set up around El-Goli Park to decorate this promenade. Some fundamental renovations were done during Pahlavi era by Sayed Baqer Kazemi, the governor of the East Azerbaijan at that time.
Facilities
Apart from all its beauties, El Goli Park has good attractive facilities aimed at entertaining the visitors, by providing them its various facilities, including: skating complex, billiard academy, game club, cafes, restaurants, sports shops, small street shops, and many others. Some activities like boating in warm seasons, walking, biking, coach riding, picnic, … Tabriz El Goli Park also has an interesting sundial clock that shows the official time of Iran. There is also a modern and facilitated hall called Andisheh for holding different events, meetings, and conferences. Also, at the southeastern corner of the park, near the Pars Hotel, there is one of the most diverse and entertaining attractions of Tabriz El Goli Park, i.e. a golf court. If you are one of the enthusiasts of golf sport to spend enough time, do not forget to visit the Mini Golf Club of El Goli Park. AS this complex is one of the most standard mini golf courses in Iran; in which several national and provincial national games have been held before.
