During this tour, we will visit different places in far southeast of Iran near Pakistan border and then continue along Oman Sea to the west side to Persian Gulf. We focus on the Indo-Malayan ecoregion in Iran which is only located in south of the country.

Day 1

Day 1: Tehran - Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKA).

Bon voyage! Today you are off on your exciting tour with Iran HRC, as you board your flight to Tehran. On arrival, you will be greeted by your friendly tour leader outside the baggage hall. We shall then proceed to your hotel and check-in. We will have some sightseeing if we have enough time and start our first birding. Stay overnight in Tehran.

Some possible records: Laughing Dove, White-eared Bulbul, Common Myna, Ringed-necked Parakeet, Alexandrine Parakeet and Eversmann’s Redstart (Rufous-backed Redstart).

Day 2

Day 2: Tehran-Konarak-Chabahar

In the morning transfer to Mehrabad Airport and fly to Konarak (near Chabahar port), after about 2 hours we arrive to Konarak Airport and drive to Chabahar (50 km – 50 min) and check in. On the way, we will have some stops for birding. Stay overnight in Chabahar.

Some possible records: Egyptian Vulture, Shikra, Rufous-tailed Scrub-Robin, Purple Sunbird, Yellow-throated Sparrow, Indian Silverbill (white-throated Munia), Indian Roller, Green Bee-eater

Day 3

Day 3:  Chabahar-Pasabandar-Goatr-Chabahar

Early in the morning, drive to Pasabandar (port) and Gowatr Bay (Bahoo-kalat River Mouth) for full day birding. On the way birding in Lipar Wetland and visit Kalani Mountain (Martian Badlands). In the evening drive back to Chabahar. Stay overnight in Chabahar.

Some possible records: Western Reef Heron, Eurasian Oystercatcher, Afghan Babbler, Desert Lark, Variable wheatear, Yellow-throated Sparrow, Hume’s Wheatear, Indian Pond Heron, Crab Plover and Swift Tern (Great-crested Tern).

Day 4

Day 4: Chabahar-Jask

Early in the morning, leave Chabahar and drive towards west along Oman Sea to Bandar-e Jask (port). On the way visit Tang Mud Volcano and also go for birding in Jegin River Mouth. Stay overnight in Jask.

Some possible records: Goliath Heron, Striated Heron, Great Stone Plover (Great Thick Knee), White-breasted kingfisher, Graceful Prinia (Graceful Warbler), Clamorous Reed Warbler, Oriental White-eye, Mourning Wheatear, Pied Wheatear, Desert Wheatear and Pale Rock Sparrow (Pale Rockfinch). 

Day 5

Day 5: Jask-Minab

In the morning drive to Minab City, on the way birding in Azini Wetland (Gaz and Harra rivers’ mouths) and also in semi- desert parts. Stay overnight in Minab.

Some possible records: Chestnut-­bellied Sandgrouse, Spotted Sandgrouse, Lichtenstein’s Sandgrouse, Sind Woodpecker, Greater Hoopoe Lark, Bay-backed Shrike, Indian Sand Lark, Desert Whitethraot and Pied Bushchat (Pied Stonechat).

Day 6

Day 6: Minab-Bandarabbas

Early morning a short drive to Tiab Port for birding. Then continue driving to Bandar Abbas and check in. If we have enough time, we'll do some birding and sightseeing. Stay overnight in Bandar Abbas.

Some possible records: White-cheeked Tern, Saunders’s Tern, Pied Kingfisher, House Crow and Pale Crag Martin (African Rock Martin). 

Day 7

Day 7: Bandarabbas-Meymand

In the morning, drive to Meymand Village (500 km – about 6 hrs). On the way, short birding experience in Geno Protected Area. Then birding around Shahr-e Babak to search for Pleske's Ground Jay (Iran's only endemic bird). Stay overnight in a hand-dug house in Meymand historical village.

Some possible records: Cream-colored Courser, Red-wattled Plover (Red-wattled Lapwing), Isabellin Shrike, Turkestan Shrike, Brown-necked Raven and Hume’s Whitethroat and Pleske’s Ground Jay. 

Day 8

Day 8: Meymand-Tehran

In the morning birding around Meymand. Then drive to Kerman (300 km – about 4 hrs). If we lost the chance to watch Pleske's Ground Jay last day again stop for birding near Shahr-e Babak. Sightseeing in Kerman (e.g. Bazaar). Drive to airport and fly to Tehran. Stay overnight in Tehran.

Some possible records: Pleske’s Ground Jay, Bar-tailed Lark and Eastern Rock Nuthatch.

 

Day 9

Day 9: Tehran-IKA

Check out and transfer to IKA for departure.
